What is the relationship between SYZ Rod Ends and SYZ Machine?

SYZ Rod Ends (syzrodends.com) is the dedicated rod end, spherical bearing, ball joint and linkage hardware product brand of SYZ Machine — not a separate company. It is not the legal entity itself.

SYZ Machine’s registered legal entity is Shanghai Yongzhen Machine Components Co., Ltd. (上海永真机械配件有限公司), Unified Social Credit Code 913101125916126737. This is the name on our business licence, ISO 9001:2015 certificate, SGS reports and other legal documents. If you receive paperwork under “SYZ Machine” or “Shanghai Yongzhen Machine Components Co., Ltd.”, it is from the same company behind syzrodends.com.

How long has SYZ Rod Ends been in business?

The business began in 1999, manufacturing rod end bearings in Shanghai. The current legal entity, Shanghai Yongzhen Machine Components Co., Ltd., was registered on 29 February 2012, and the SYZ Machine brand — and its SYZ Rod Ends product line — has operated continuously since.

Are you a manufacturer or a trading company?

We are a manufacturer, not a trading company. Engineering, quality and international sales are based in Shanghai, and production runs across our own factory and two closely-affiliated production bases:

  • Our own factory in Ningbo, Zhejiang: 2,200 m², 30 staff, 48 machines (35 CNC). This is the production address named on our ISO 9001:2015 certificate.
  • Rod end and ball joint base in Wuxi, Jiangsu (affiliated, independently registered): 6,000 m², 50 staff, 2 production lines, 66 machines, monthly capacity of 200,000 pieces. Assessed on site by SGS, report No. 492475436_P+T.
  • Structural and sheet-metal base in Taixing, Jiangsu (affiliated, independently registered): 5,313 m², 32 staff, 68 equipment units across 4 production lines. Assessed on site by SGS, report No. 482195455_P+T.

Our Shanghai office is 620 m² with 38 staff handling engineering, quality management, purchasing and international business, including 14 dedicated export specialists.

Do you use outside or partner workshops?

For some process-specific or long-tail custom parts, yes. In addition to our own Ningbo facility and the two affiliated Jiangsu bases, we work with about 30 qualified long-term partner workshops, mainly around Ningbo and Taizhou, for supplemental capacity and special processes. We qualify these partners by factory scale, equipment, quality and delivery stability, with SYZ sampling or final inspection on their output. We do not publish individual partner workshop names.

Our core rod end and ball joint production line, however, is fully self-manufactured — forging through precision finishing is done in-house, with no outsourcing on that line.

What is your production capacity?

Our Wuxi rod end and ball joint base runs a monthly capacity of 200,000 pieces across 2 production lines — a figure recorded in SGS on-site assessment reports rather than self-declared. Our Ningbo factory has 48 machines and currently runs at roughly 50% utilization, with headroom to about 80% in peak season.

MOQ is typically 100–300 pieces per item; stock items can ship in smaller quantities. Lead time: rod ends, ball joints and spherical bearings run about 25 days; tie rods and adjustable linkage hardware about 20 days; CNC-machined parts and linkage assemblies about 30 days. Custom Development — Drawings, Samples & NDA

What file formats can I submit for a custom quote?

We accept STEP, IGES, DWG and PDF drawings, and can also work directly from a physical sample if you don’t have CAD files on hand.

I don’t have drawings — can you still make my part?

Yes. Send us the physical part or sample and our engineering team will reverse-engineer it, flag any structural improvements, and produce prototype samples for your approval before mass production.

Can you reverse-engineer a rod end or bearing from a competitor sample?

Yes, this is routine. Send the physical part with no drawings and our team will measure it, confirm bore, thread, material and misalignment, and produce a sample for dimensional approval before we quote volume production. For standard series we also cross-reference to FK, QA1, Aurora, Alinabal and Midwest Control part numbers where equivalents exist.

How fast do you turn around a quote after I send drawings?

Standard catalogue parts are quoted within 24 hours. Custom drawings or samples typically take 2–3 business days for engineering evaluation and an initial quotation; complex custom development (material sourcing, non-standard tooling) can take a little longer.

Will you sign an NDA before reviewing my design?

Yes. We’re prepared to sign your NDA for custom projects before analysing any files, so your drawings stay confidential from the first submission.

Can you help with design if I don’t know exactly what I need?

Yes. If you don’t have technical drawings yet, our engineering team can help with spec development based on your target application, load and mounting envelope before we move to quoting.

How long does sample production take?

Stock catalogue items ship as free samples in about 3–5 days (air freight not included). Custom-drawn parts that require new tooling or a first production run typically take around 20 days from drawing approval to sample shipment; we confirm a specific timeline once we’ve reviewed your drawing.

What is your minimum order quantity (MOQ)?

MOQ is typically 100–300 pieces per item across the catalogue; stock items can ship in smaller quantities. Spherical bearings can be sampled individually — see the Spherical Bearings section for the 1-piece sample minimum on that line. Send us the specific part and target volume for an exact number.

Can I get a sample before committing to a bulk order?

Yes. Samples are free of charge, though air freight is not included — you may use your own freight account or ask our sales representative for the shipping cost. Stock samples typically arrive in 3–5 days.

What are your standard payment terms?

We accept payment by wire transfer (T/T) or PayPal. Common terms are 30% deposit in advance and 70% balance before shipment; special terms can be discussed for established partners.

What is your standard production lead time?

Rod ends, ball joints and spherical bearings run about 25 days; tie rods and adjustable linkage hardware about 20 days; CNC-machined parts and linkage assemblies about 30 days from drawing/sample approval and deposit.

Do you support low-MOQ trial orders for new brands or private label?

Yes. As a direct factory we can supply low-MOQ samples for quality and fitment testing before you commit to a full production run, so new brands can validate a product line with limited inventory risk.

Is there a minimum for multi-SKU or mixed-catalogue orders?

Materials, Tolerances & Surface Finishes

What materials are SYZ Rod Ends products made from?

Core materials across the catalogue are 52100 bearing steel (balls), 4130 chromoly steel, carbon steel, 440C and 304/316 stainless steel, and 7075-T6 aluminum for weight-critical rod ends, with reinforced nylon, PTFE, sintered bronze and copper-alloy liners for self-lubricating races. Material choice is matched to load, environment and maintenance preference.

Chromoly, carbon steel, stainless or aluminum — which should I choose?

4130 chromoly has the highest tensile and fatigue strength and is the standard for off-road and motorsport suspension and steering. Carbon steel suits moderate-load, cost-sensitive, general industrial or agricultural linkage in non-corrosive conditions. Stainless (SCM/SCF) is worth the premium when the joint faces continuous moisture, salt spray or washdown. Aluminum (7075-T6) suits lighter race and control-linkage applications where weight matters more than peak shock load.

What does PTFE-lined or the “-T” suffix mean?

A PTFE liner is bonded between ball and race to eliminate metal-to-metal contact, giving self-lubricating, maintenance-free, low-friction operation with a dry friction coefficient of 0.05 or lower and an operating range of roughly −50°C to +200°C. It’s the default choice where the joint is sealed, hard to grease, or must run clean; the trade-off is lower peak load and temperature than metal-to-metal.

What tolerances do you hold on machined dimensions?

Standard precision machining holds three-decimal tolerances of ±0.005 in. (±0.01 mm) on critical dimensions, with 100% CMM inspection on finished parts. As one reference point: our XMR10-T rod end carries a verified static radial load rating of 19,751 lbs.

What surface finishes and platings are available?

Zinc plating is standard on carbon steel components. Black oxide, hard chrome plating, powder coating, e-coating and anodizing (aluminum parts) are all available, matched to your corrosion or appearance requirement.

What is misalignment angle and how is it specified?

Misalignment angle is the maximum angular deflection a rod end or bearing can take before the shank or housing bottoms out. Our high-misalignment series (PCM, PCYM, HJMX, YPB-T, WPB-T) and misalignment spacers extend the usable angle beyond a standard-clearance part. Exceeding the rated angle bends the shank or cracks the housing, so it should be checked against your worst-case articulation, not just static geometry.

Do you provide material certificates and test reports?

Yes. Material certificates, dimensional inspection reports, hardness reports and — for larger or ongoing orders — batch-level documentation are available on request, backed by ERP batch traceability from incoming material to shipment.

Can I get custom liner or bushing materials?

Yes. Beyond the standard PTFE, nylon and sintered-bronze liners, we support polyurethane and Delrin bushings for flex joints, and can review other engineering plastics on request for OEM programs. Send your load, temperature and NVH requirement for a recommendation.

Our process flow runs forging → machining → injection molding (for lined parts) → heat treatment → precision finishing, with incoming material checked against certificates before release to production. In-house measuring equipment includes a coordinate measuring machine (CMM), an optical projector and a Rockwell hardness tester, and every batch passes final inspection before packing.

Is your rod end and ball joint line outsourced?

No. Our core rod end and ball joint production line is fully self-manufactured, in-house from forging through precision finishing — our SGS-assessed production report for that line states outsourcing is unnecessary. Some structural, tubing and hardware processes do use our two affiliated Jiangsu bases or qualified partner workshops.

Do you load-test or verify rated capacity?

Can I start a new private-label line with low inventory risk?

What is the difference between a rod end and a spherical bearing?

A rod end is a complete assembly — a spherical bearing inside a housing with an integral threaded shank or bore, ready to thread into a linkage. A spherical plain bearing is just the ball-in-ring element and must be pressed into a housing you provide. SYZ manufactures both.

What’s the difference between 2-piece (XM) and 3-piece (JMX) construction?

2-piece XM/XF swages the ball into the body with a molded nylon/PTFE race — self-lubricating and economical. 3-piece JMX/JFX uses a separate heat-treated alloy-steel race for tighter tolerance and higher load per bore, with a PTFE-lined (-T) option.

Chromoly, carbon steel, aluminum or stainless — which inch series should I pick?

4130 chromoly (JMX/XM/HJMX/PCM) is the standard for off-road and motorsport shock loads. Carbon steel (CM/JM/EXM) suits moderate-load, cost-sensitive linkage. Aluminum (ALJM/ALRSM/ALJF, 7075-T6) suits weight-critical light-load applications, not heavy suspension shock. Stainless (SCM-T/SCF-T) is for continuous moisture or washdown exposure.

What is a high-misalignment inch rod end?

One built for a wider angular range before the housing bottoms out. HJMX is our heavy-duty high-misalignment chromoly series; high-misalignment spacers (SG/HMS) and HMBL steel balls can further increase the effective angle on standard rod ends.

Do inch rod ends rust, and how do you protect them?

Carbon steel and chromoly series are zinc-plated for normal service; the plating will rust if worn through. For salt, marine or chemical exposure, use our stainless SCM-T/SCF-T series instead.

How do I match an SYZ inch rod end to an FK, QA1 or Aurora part?

Each inch series cross-references to specific competitor brands — for example JMX(-T)/JFX(-T) to FK, QA1, Alinabal and Midwest Control; AM-AF to QA1 and Midwest Control; HJMX(-T) to Aurora. Search by competitor part number on the relevant spec-selection page to find the SYZ equivalent.

Right-hand or left-hand thread?

Both are available across the inch range. For adjustable links (tie rods, sway-bar links, control arms) use one right-hand and one left-hand rod end on the same rod so length adjusts by rotating the rod without disconnecting either end; right-hand is standard for fixed mounts.

Can rod ends be used in continuous rotation?

No. Rod ends are designed for oscillating, angular movement and static positioning. Continuous RPM overheats and wears the bearing — use a ball or roller bearing instead.

What is an inch rod end and what are its parts?

An inch rod end (heim joint) is a spherical bearing built into a one-piece body with an integral threaded shank or bore, so it threads directly into a linkage. Across the range the ball is 52100 bearing steel, precision ground, heat treated and hard chrome plated; the race is alloy steel, carbon steel, injection-molded reinforced nylon, sintered bronze or 440C stainless depending on series; and the body/housing is 4130 chromoly, carbon steel, 7075-T6 aluminum or 304 stainless, with an integral male or female threaded shank.

What surface finishes are used across the inch rod end range?

The ball is hard chrome plated as standard on every series. Bodies and races are typically zinc plated on carbon steel and chromoly series, or black oxide coated on the PCM(-T) and PCYM-T/PCYF-T high-misalignment chromoly series. What’s different about the metric rod end range versus inch?

Construction, materials and finish options mirror the inch range — the only structural difference is thread standard: metric rod ends use ISO metric threads (e.g. M8×1.25) instead of UNF. Choose metric when your mounting hardware, bracket or OEM assembly is metric-specified.

Which metric series correspond to the inch chromoly and carbon steel lines?

JMX-M/JFX-M is the metric equivalent of the 3-piece chromoly JMX(-T)/JFX(-T) line; CM-M/CF-M and JM-M/JF-M are the metric carbon steel equivalents of CM(-T)-CF(-T) and JM(-T)-JF(-T); MPM-MPF and MXM-MXF are self-lubricating nylon-race metric series; SCM-MT/SCF-MT is the metric stainless line.

Do metric rod ends cross-reference to FK or other brands?

What is a metal-to-metal spherical bearing, and when should I use one?

A hardened steel ball running directly on a steel race, with no polymer liner. It gives the highest static load capacity and widest temperature range and tolerates shock loading that would cold-flow PTFE, but it needs lubrication — which is why the COM race carries a grease groove and hole.

What does PTFE-lined or Teflon-lined mean on a spherical bearing?

A PTFE liner bonded to the race gives a low-friction, self-lubricating, maintenance-free surface, with a dry friction coefficient of 0.05 or lower and an operating range of roughly −50°C to +200°C. What’s included in a complete linkage rod assembly?

What is a high-misalignment spacer (SG/HMS)?

A tapered spacer — SG in stainless or HMS in zinc-plated carbon steel — that seats in the ball bore and moves the bolt contact face outward, letting the rod end articulate to a greater angle than standard mounting allows. The range covers roughly 44° to 66° depending on size and is used in pairs.

What’s the difference between the SG/HMS, SCNS/CNS and SCW/CW series?

How do I size rod end spacers?

Match the spacer bore to your mounting bolt, confirm the total installed stack (spacer + ball + spacer) fits your bracket tab gap, and verify the resulting angle is within what the rod end housing itself permits.

Can you make spacers to my drawing?

Yes. Send bore, outside diameter, width, material and finish, or a drawing. For custom and OEM programs we also machine 4130/4140/4340 alloy steel, SS304/316/17-4 PH, 6061/7075 aluminum, and on request brass, engineering plastics or titanium.

What surface finishes can I choose for spacers?

Zinc plating is standard on carbon steel spacers. Black oxide, powder coating, e-coating and anodizing (for aluminum) are all available, plus zinc-nickel and other specialised coatings where the corrosion specification calls for it.

What’s the difference between chromoly tubing and DOM tubing?

They describe different things. Chromoly is the chemical composition — the 4130 chrome-molybdenum alloy. DOM (Drawn Over Mandrel) is the manufacturing method: cold drawing over a mandrel for tight dimensional tolerance and a smooth bore. SYZ tubing is 4130 chromoly made by mandrel drawing, so both terms apply to the same product.

What sizes of chromoly tubing are available?

The standard program covers OD 0.375–1.375 in., wall 0.058–0.125 in., cut to length 6–50 in., across 23 part numbers. Made-to-order capability extends to OD 0.5–3.0 in. and wall 0.049–0.188 in. in lengths up to 6 metres.

Why can’t I weld a rod end directly to a tube?

Welding heat destroys the bearing heat treatment and melts any PTFE liner, causing seizure and loss of load rating. Always weld a tube adapter first, then thread the rod end in after everything has cooled.

What is the difference between a tube adapter and a weld bung?

A tube adapter is a stepped weld-in insert with a threaded bore; a weld bung is a flush threaded plug inside the tube end. Adapters are general-purpose; bungs suit minimal-protrusion connections where clearance is tight. Tube adapters are 4130 chromoly (mild steel optional), left-hand marked with grooves, across 73 configurations.

What do interlocking-ID and OD tube clamps do, and how are they mounted?

Both are bolt-together collar clamps for joining or bracket-mounting round tube without welding — interlocking-ID clamps key into the tube’s inside diameter for a fixed alignment, OD clamps grip the outside diameter for a slip-fit or rotating mount. Polyurethane or Delrin bushing — which should I choose?
