RH & LH Lock Nuts for Rod Ends and Adjusters
Jam Nuts
A jam nut locks a rod end, jack screw or turnbuckle at its set position so vibration can’t change it. SYZ jam nuts are carbon steel, zinc plated, in both right-hand and left-hand thread, 10-32 to 1-1/4″-12, 13 sizes — left-hand nuts groove-marked for identification, with an aluminum option for weight-critical builds.

Basics
What Is a Jam Nut?
A jam nut (lock nut) is a thin nut tightened against a rod end or adjuster to lock the threaded joint, preventing the setting from changing under vibration.
Adjustable linkages use a jam nut on each end — one RH, one LH — to match the rod end thread hands. SYZ marks LH nuts with grooves so fabricators can tell them apart at a glance on the build bench.
Left-Hand Thread Grooves: Because it is impossible to distinguish left-hand and right-hand threads by a casual glance at a standard hexagon profile, SYZ incorporates dual circumference grooving on the flats of all Left-Hand jam nuts. This simple visual cue prevents installation errors.

Usage Guide
How to Use a Jam Nut Correctly
A jam nut locks via thread preload. Follow these rules to ensure the joint never backs out.
- 01
One Per Threaded End
Set the linkage center-to-center length first. Then run the jam nut down finger-tight against the rod end body before executing final torque adjustment.
- 02
Match the Hand Exactly
On double-adjustable links with RH one end and LH the other, you must run a RH jam nut on the RH end, and a LH jam nut on the LH end. Never try to force threads.
- 03
Retain Thread Engagement
The jam nut only locks the thread; it doesn’t provide structural support. Ensure the rod end retains full, recommended thread engagement inside the tube adapter at all times.
Zinc-Plated Carbon Steel: The standard workhorse nut. Offers solid thread strength and durability across all general industrial and off-road builds.
Aerospace Grade Aluminum: Our lightweight aluminum jam nuts are engineered specifically to shave rotating/unsprung weight in racing and high-performance setups where weight reduction is prioritized.
Applications
Where Jam Nuts Perform
Essential thread-locking hardware for all adjustable assemblies.
Adjustable Suspension Linkages
Required on 4-links, track bars, panhard bars, and control arms to hold structural settings under heavy terrain shocks.
Steering Link System
Locks inner and outer tie-rod adjusters to hold wheel alignment toe settings under continuous vibration.
Industrial Actuation
Used on cylinder rod extensions, linkage bars, and machinery turnbuckles to lock system adjustments in place.
