Bushing Buyers’ Guide
A bushing is a sleeve or plain-bushing component that supports controlled rotation, oscillation, sliding contact, compliance or vibration management. This guide covers the bushing families in SYZ’s catalog—from engineered polymers to forged flex-joint assemblies—and how to choose the right one.

What Is a Bushing?
DefinitionA bushing is a sleeve or plain-bushing component that supports controlled rotation, oscillation, sliding contact, compliance or vibration management in suspension links, control arms, machine pivots, cab mounts, pedals and articulated equipment.
SYZ’s bushing range spans two broad families: engineered polymer bushings (Delrin/POM, polyurethane, UHMW) for self-lubricating, corrosion-free pivots and spacers; and forged flex-joint bushings (CBS/XBS) for structural suspension links that need a replaceable, compliant pivot. Both families are backed by custom machining to sample or drawing.

Bushing Families at a Glance
StructureThe SYZ bushing range maps to four practical groups—each solving a different mechanical problem.
Polymer Bushings
Delrin/POM, polyurethane and UHMW sleeves and pivots. Self-lubricating, corrosion-free, dimensionally stable. The broadest group—35 standard sizes plus custom.
Forged Poly Bushings
Forged steel (or chromoly) shank bodies holding a replaceable polyurethane bushing over a BOM sleeve. Structural flex-joint pivots for suspension links.
Rebuildable Flex Joints
Forged chromoly housing with hard-chromed ball and replaceable bushing—greasable in the field via zerk fitting (see the flex-joint type page). The serviceable alternative to sealed rod ends.
Mounting Hardware
Spacers, standoffs and bracket components that position and support bushings within their mounts.
Polymer Bushings
Machined from engineered polymers for pivots and spacers that run dry, resist corrosion and damp vibration without grease.
A common choice for washdown and cab-mount joints where a plated steel bushing would corrode or run noisy—confirm chemical and temperature compatibility per material.
Forged Flex-Joint Bushings
A forged steel shank body holding a polyurethane bushing over a BOM sleeve—the structural pivot for off-road suspension links that must articulate and damp simultaneously.
When the polyurethane wears, press in a new bushing and reuse the body—the economics of rebuildable suspension.
What a Bushing Does in the Assembly
FunctionFour engineering jobs—the material and family you choose decides which job dominates.
Provide a controlled pivot
Sleeve and plain bushings support rotation and oscillation with controlled clearance—the running fit is a material-and-dimension decision.
Isolate vibration
Polyurethane and polymer bushings damp road and machine vibration at the pivot instead of passing it into the chassis.
Carry structural loads
Forged flex-joint bodies carry the link’s working and shock loads while the compliant insert handles articulation.
Enable rebuild cycles
Rebuildable designs let you press in a new bushing and keep the housing—the economics of serviceable suspension.
Where bushings fail in the field
- Material mismatched to load, temperature or chemical exposure—Delrin/POM and UHMW have continuous-use ceilings well below steel; check the grade against your duty.
- Clearance copied from a steel bushing—polymers need their own running fit.
- Rebuild intervals ignored—polyurethane ages and must be replaced; set a service interval based on duty cycle.
- Over-compression at install, pre-loading the bushing to failure—set the sleeve length to the specified pre-load, not crushed.
The SYZ Bushing Range
MaterialsFrom self-lubricating polymers to structural flex-joint assemblies—each family solves a different bushing problem.

Delrin / PU / UHMW
35 sizes + customSelf-lubricating, corrosion-free machined bushings in three polymer grades. The broadest range—from precision spacers to suspension arm bushings. Example: SYZ-DEL, B 0.874, D 1.748, D2 2.244, W 0.846, T 0.25.

CBS / XBS
Forged flex-joint bodiesForged steel (or chromoly) bodies with replaceable polyurethane bushing and BOM sleeve—structural, rebuildable, vibration-damping. Example: CBS-1, thread 5/8-18, bore 0.500, body A 1.750, length C 2.700.

Rebuildable Flex Joints
Greaseable · 20 configsForged chromoly housing with hard-chromed ball and replaceable bushing—the flex-joint type page specifies a greaseable zerk fitting; confirm per configuration on the spec page.

Precision pivot → polymer. Vibration damping → polyurethane. Structural flex link → forged flex joint.
Set the Dimensions
Bore, OD, width—or send a sample/drawing for custom machining.
Check the Environment
Temperature, chemicals, UV, washdown—match the material’s limits.
Pick the Family
Polymer, forged flex joint or rebuildable flex joint—by structural demand and rebuild strategy.
Plan Maintenance
Polymers run dry but age; flex joints need grease and periodic rebuilds—set the interval.
