Complete Adjustable Suspension & Steering Links — Built to Length

Linkage Rods

SYZ linkage rods are complete, ready-to-install adjustable assemblies — combining tubing, welded tube adapters, rod ends (heim joints) and jam nuts into a finished suspension or steering link, built to your center-to-center length. Opposing right-hand / left-hand threads let you adjust length on the vehicle without disassembly. Built in DOM or 4130 chromoly tubing, round or hex body, with any SYZ rod end series — from off-road tie rods and control arms to industrial actuator rods. Order complete or as components.

Design Concept

What Is a Linkage Rod?

A linkage rod (suspension link, adjustable link, threaded rod assembly) connects two pivot points while allowing precise length adjustment.

A typical SYZ linkage rod includes: tubing cut to length, two tube adapters welded into the tube ends (one RH, one LH thread), two rod ends threaded into the adapters, and two jam nuts to lock the setting in place.

The Turnbuckle Effect: The opposing thread directions (RH on one side, LH on the other) allow you to lengthen or shorten the assembly simply by rotating the central tube. This makes alignment tuning (caster, camber, toe) possible without disconnecting either pivot end from the vehicle.

Dimensions to Confirm When Ordering

To configure a complete assembly, please specify: center-to-center length, adjustment range, tubing material (DOM vs. 4130 chromoly), tube OD & wall thickness, round vs. hex profile, rod end series & bore sizes, thread hand pairing (RH/LH vs. RH/RH), and required misalignment angle.

Comparison

Solid Rod vs. Tube Assembly vs. Hex Bar

Choose the structure that matches your space, weight, and load requirements.

Solid Threaded Rod

Simple, highly compact, and very heavy. Threads directly into female rod ends. Best for light-duty throttle or shifter linkages where space is tightest.

Tube + Weld Bungs

Structural tubing welded to insert adapters. Highly custom and optimizes strength-to-weight ratios. The standard for off-road and motorsport suspension arms.

Hex Bar Turnbuckle

Solid aluminum or steel hex bar with threads tapped directly into the ends. Provides flat wrench surfaces. Best for short steering or suspension tie-rods.

Applications

Where Linkage Rods Perform

Configured for off-road suspension, racing control links, and industrial cylinders.

Off-Road Links

Tie rods, control arms, sway bar links, and panhard track bars. Built using 4130 chromoly tubing and high-strength JMX rod ends.

Motorsports

Weight-optimized pushrods, steering tie-rods, and 4-link systems built from aluminum or thin-wall chromoly.

Agricultural Machinery

Heavy-duty implement linkage rods, loader arms, and adjustment links built from thick DOM tubing and economy JM series.

Industrial Actuators

Pneumatic and hydraulic cylinder rod extension linkages, sorting conveyors, and mechanical levers built to custom lengths.

FAQ

Common Questions

What’s included in a complete linkage rod assembly?
A complete assembly includes structural tubing cut to size, two weld-in tube adapters (one right-hand, one left-hand thread), two matching rod ends (your choice of series and liner), and two matching jam nuts.
How do I measure center-to-center length?
Measure from the center of one rod end bore to the center of the other with the assembly adjusted to its nominal, mid-adjustment position. For custom setups, measure between the centers of your mounting brackets.
Why use RH + LH opposing threads?
This creates a turnbuckle effect. You can lengthen or shorten the linkage simply by spinning the central tube in one direction or the other, allowing toe, alignment, or preload tuning without taking the assembly off the vehicle.
What tubing should I use for off-road suspension?
We recommend 4130 chromoly tubing with a substantial wall thickness (such as 0.120″ or 0.188″) to resist bending and impact under severe off-road conditions. For lighter links or street vehicles, DOM tubing is a cost-effective alternative.
Can SYZ build linkage rods to my specs?
Yes, we build custom linkage assemblies to your exact drawing, center-to-center length specifications, tubing size, rod end series, and desired plating finishes.
