Overview

STEEL BALL CBL-DP Product Overview

CBL7DP is a replacement rod end steel ball with 0.4375″ bore (B), 0.812″ ball diameter (D), and 0.562″ width (W).

Made from 52100 bearing steel — precision ground, heat treated, and hard chrome plated. The CBL-DP series balls are dimensioned to drop-in replace worn balls in standard rod end bodies. Used when rebuilding rod ends rather than replacing the complete assembly. 440C stainless steel balls available for corrosive-environment rod ends. Suitable for all standard series rod end bodies in the matching bore size.

440C stainless steel option available. High-misalignment ball equivalent: HMBL series. Sold individually; inspect housing bore and race for wear before installation.

Every Unit Inspected Before Shipment

🔩

Raw Material Inspection

Material certifications verified. Composition confirmed by spectrometer before machining begins.

🔍

Thread Gauge Inspection

100% go/no-go gauge check on all threaded sections. Zero tolerance on dimensional non-conformance.

⚖️

Load Capacity Test

Static and dynamic load tests run on representative samples from each production batch.

📏

Dimensional Measurement

CMM verification of critical dimensions — ball diameter, bore, thread pitch, and body length.

🔬

Surface Inspection

Visual and tactile inspection for burrs, scratches, surface cracks, and plating defects.

🔄

Articulation Test

Misalignment angle and torque measured to confirm liner performance meets specification.

🏆

Heat Treatment Verify

Hardness tests confirm proper heat treatment on chromoly steel bodies and bearing balls.

📋

Batch Documentation

Full traceability from raw material heat number to finished part. COC and inspection reports available.

Applications

Where STEEL BALL CBL-DP Are Used

Rod-End Rebuild and Replacement

Precision steel balls can replace worn spherical elements in serviceable rod-end or flex-joint assemblies when the ball geometry and fit are matched to the housing and race.

High-Misalignment Suspension Joints

The spherical ball form supports angular movement in custom suspension and linkage designs. Confirm bore, outer profile, surface condition, and retaining method before using it as a replacement component.

Custom Bearing and Linkage Assemblies

Steel balls can be incorporated into fabricated or rebuildable joints where controlled articulation is required. Engineering review should cover contact stress, lubrication, corrosion protection, and load direction.

Fabricated Joint Programs

Supports fabricated joint programs where consistent ball dimensions are needed across multiple housing sizes.

Performance and Motorsport Hardware

A fit for performance hardware needing precision ground replacement balls in rod end and spherical joint service.

Industrial Rebuild Inventory

Useful for maintenance inventory where hardened spherical balls are stocked for ongoing rebuild and service work.

FAQ

STEEL BALL CBL-DP Frequently Asked Questions

What is the CBL7DP steel ball used for?

The CBL7DP is a replacement rod end steel ball dimensioned to drop into standard rod end bodies in the matching bore size. It's used when rebuilding a worn rod end rather than replacing the complete assembly.

What are the bore, ball diameter, and width of the CBL7DP?

Bore (B) is 0.4375", ball diameter (D) is 0.812", and width (W) is 0.562" — match these to the housing bore and race you're rebuilding before ordering.

What material is the CBL7DP made from?

Standard material is 52100 bearing steel, precision ground, heat treated, and hard chrome plated. A 440C stainless steel version is available for corrosive-environment rod ends.

Is a stainless steel version of the CBL7DP available?

Yes. The 440C stainless steel option is available for rod ends operating in corrosive environments where the standard 52100 hard chrome ball isn't sufficient — specify 440C when requesting a quote.

What's the difference between the CBL7DP and the HMBL series ball?

The CBL7DP is the standard-misalignment CBL-DP replacement ball for this bore size; the HMBL series is its high-misalignment equivalent, for rod end bodies that need a greater articulation angle than the standard ball geometry allows.

What should I check before installing the CBL7DP?

Inspect the housing bore and race for wear before installation — the CBL7DP is sold individually and is meant to drop-in replace a worn ball in an otherwise sound rod end body, not to compensate for a worn or oversized race.
