Steering Linkage Ends & Adjustable Tie Rod Hardware
Tie Rod Ends
A tie rod end is the wear joint connecting a steering tie rod or drag link to the knuckle, steering arm or pitman arm while allowing angular movement. SYZ supports tie rod end sourcing, heim-joint tie rod conversions, threaded sleeves, jam nuts and the rod ends, spacers and tube adapters that go with them — for OEM replacement, off-road steering and custom fabrication. Send taper, thread and center-to-center length for a quote.

Tie Rod End vs Heim-Joint Steering
| Feature | OEM-Style Tie Rod End | Heim-Joint Steering |
|---|---|---|
| Mounting | Tapered ball stud | Bolt-through spherical rod end |
| Sealing | Often booted/greasable | Often exposed unless booted |
| Maintenance | Grease, inspect boots | Keep clean, torque hardware, inspect spacers |
| Strength | Good OEM compatibility | Can be built very strong with quality components |
| Fabrication | Uses tapered knuckle/arm | Often requires drilling or custom tabs |

Fabrication Guide
Building a Heim-Joint Tie Rod (the fabricated path)
When converting from OEM tapered ends to a fabricated heim-joint tie rod, the steering tie rod becomes an assembly you spec end-to-end:
- Tube — chromoly/DOM tubing sized for the load and length.
- Tube adapters — one RH, one LH weld-in adapter so the finished rod adjusts for toe without removing the ends.
- Rod ends — chromoly rod ends (often high-misalignment) sized to the steering loads, with misalignment spacers to clear the steering arm through full lock and suspension travel.
- Jam nuts — lock each end after setting toe.
