Overview

WELD ON WRENCH HEXES Product Overview

1865-106 is a mild steel weld-on wrench hex for 1″ OD tubing. Wrench size: 1 1/4″ across flats. Tubing ID clearance: 1.015″ nominal.

Weld-on wrench hexes are slid over a tube and tack-welded at the mid-point to provide a hex gripping surface for a wrench — allowing the tube to be held or turned without marring the surface. Used to add a turn-point on chromoly push rods, adjustable links, and steering tubes where a threaded hex body is not already present. Mild steel construction; compatible with most standard tubing ODs.

Fits 1″ OD tubing. Pairs with CMT chromoly tubing and WTF tube adapters. All standard tubing sizes from 3/8″ to 2″ OD available across the 1865 series.

Quality Control

Every Unit Inspected Before Shipment

🔩

Raw Material Inspection

Material certifications verified. Composition confirmed by spectrometer before machining begins.

🔍

Thread Gauge Inspection

100% go/no-go gauge check on all threaded sections. Zero tolerance on dimensional non-conformance.

⚖️

Load Capacity Test

Static and dynamic load tests run on representative samples from each production batch.

📏

Dimensional Measurement

CMM verification of critical dimensions — ball diameter, bore, thread pitch, and body length.

🔬

Surface Inspection

Visual and tactile inspection for burrs, scratches, surface cracks, and plating defects.

🔄

Articulation Test

Misalignment angle and torque measured to confirm liner performance meets specification.

🏆

Heat Treatment Verify

Hardness tests confirm proper heat treatment on chromoly steel bodies and bearing balls.

📋

Batch Documentation

Full traceability from raw material heat number to finished part. COC and inspection reports available.

Applications

Where WELD ON WRENCH HEXES Are Used

Tie Rod and Link Bar Fabrication

Weld-on wrench hexes are used in tie rods and link bars where wrench access must be added to a tube assembly.

Suspension Adjustment Assemblies

A practical fit for suspension adjusters that need a welded hex profile for field alignment changes.

Steering Linkage Builds

Used in steering linkage builds where round tubing needs a simple wrenchable section after welding.

Fabricated Tube Connectors

Supports fabricated tube connectors where machining a custom hex body would add unnecessary cost.

Performance and Off-Road Hardware

A fit for performance and off-road hardware needing durable weld-on adjustment points in steel tubing systems.

OEM Fabrication Programs

Useful in repeat production where common tubing sizes need consistent wrench-flat hardware.

FAQ

WELD ON WRENCH HEXES Frequently Asked Questions

What is a weld-on wrench hex used for?

A weld-on wrench hex adds wrench flats to a tube assembly so it can be adjusted after welding.

What material is standard for this series?

Standard construction uses mild steel for weldability and practical fabrication use.

Why are tubing O.D. size and wrench size the first fitment checks?

They determine whether the hex fits the tube correctly and whether the final assembly has the required wrench access.

What does the I.D. size indicate?

The I.D. size helps confirm the internal fit against the intended tube or fabricated assembly.

Where are weld-on wrench hexes commonly used?

They are commonly used in tie rods, steering links, and fabricated adjustment assemblies built from round tubing.

Can these be used in repeat production work?

Yes. They are well suited to repeat fabrication and OEM production programs using common tubing sizes.
