Complete Adjustable Suspension & Steering Links — Built to Length

Linkage Rods &
Adjustable Connecting Rods

Choose from 352 standard SYZ linkage rods (4.25″–37.5″, 3/8-24 and 1/2-20 RH/LH) or have one built to your drawing. A linkage rod transmits push-pull motion between two pivots through a rod end, clevis, stud or ball joint.

Design Concept

What Is a Linkage Rod?

A linkage rod (suspension link, adjustable link, threaded rod assembly) connects two pivot points while allowing precise length adjustment.

A typical SYZ linkage rod includes: tubing cut to length, two tube adapters welded into the tube ends (one RH, one LH thread), two rod ends threaded into the adapters, and two jam nuts to lock the setting in place.

The Turnbuckle Effect: The opposing thread directions (RH on one side, LH on the other) allow you to lengthen or shorten the assembly simply by rotating the central tube. This makes alignment tuning (caster, camber, toe) possible without disconnecting either pivot end from the vehicle.

Standard Shelf

352 Standard Linkage Connecting Rods

The LCR family covers 4.25″–37.50″ lengths, 3/8-24 and 1/2-20 RH/LH threads, four end types and four race options. Use the full category for the current SKU set, or send a drawing for a custom tube link.

Custom Path

Custom Tube Links When the Standard Shelf Is Not Enough

Send center-to-center length, thread and end type — or send a sample. We configure cut tube, RH/LH adapters, rod ends, clevises, ball joints and jam nuts as a complete BOM.

Applications

Where Linkage Rods Perform

Configured for off-road suspension, racing control links, and industrial cylinders.

Off-Road Links

Tie rods, control arms, sway bar links, and panhard track bars — standard picks use 4130 chromoly tubing with JMX rod ends; step up to a custom chromoly or DOM tube link when the standard LCR geometry doesn’t fit.

Motorsports & Control Linkage

Weight-optimized pushrods, steering tie-rods, and 4-link systems built from aluminum or thin-wall chromoly, plus compact stud-end throttle and shift linkage for short control runs with serviceable adjustment.

Agricultural Machinery

Heavy-duty implement linkage rods, loader arms, and adjustment links built from thick DOM tubing and economy JM series — or standard LCR lengths where RH/LH adjustment simplifies setup.

Industrial Actuators

Pneumatic and hydraulic cylinder rod extension linkages, sorting conveyors, packaging and motion-transfer assemblies, and mechanical levers built to custom lengths.

FAQ

Common Questions

What’s included in a complete linkage rod assembly?
A complete assembly includes structural tubing cut to size, two weld-in tube adapters (one right-hand, one left-hand thread), two matching rod ends (your choice of series and liner), and two matching jam nuts.
How do I measure center-to-center length?
Measure from the center of one rod end bore to the center of the other with the assembly adjusted to its nominal, mid-adjustment position. For custom setups, measure between the centers of your mounting brackets.
Why use RH + LH opposing threads?
This creates a turnbuckle effect. You can lengthen or shorten the linkage simply by spinning the central tube in one direction or the other, allowing toe, alignment, or preload tuning without taking the assembly off the vehicle.
What tubing should I use for off-road suspension?
We recommend 4130 chromoly tubing with a substantial wall thickness (such as 0.120″ or 0.188″) to resist bending and impact under severe off-road conditions. For lighter links or street vehicles, DOM tubing is a cost-effective alternative.
Can SYZ build linkage rods to my specs?
Yes, we build custom linkage assemblies to your exact drawing, center-to-center length specifications, tubing size, rod end series, and desired plating finishes.
Do you have standard linkage rods in stock sizes?+
Yes. The LCR family has 352 standard sizes covering 4.25″–37.50″ lengths. Use the category shelf to filter the current products, or send a drawing when your geometry falls outside the standard range.
What race options are available on linkage rod ends?+
The standard LCR range includes steel, nylon, bronze and PTFE race options. Choose by load, lubrication, contamination and maintenance requirements.
What is included in a complete linkage rod assembly?
Tubing cut to length, two welded tube adapters (one right-hand, one left-hand thread), two rod ends of your series and material, and two jam nuts. Specify center-to-center length, rod end type and tubing material.
Why use right-hand plus left-hand opposing threads?
They create a turnbuckle effect, so rotating the tube lengthens or shortens the assembly while both rod ends stay connected, enabling on-vehicle alignment and geometry tuning.
What tubing should I use for off-road suspension linkage rods?
4130 chromoly with a substantial wall for impact resistance. DOM is acceptable for lighter use but can bend under severe impact.
Can SYZ build linkage rods to my specifications?
Yes. SYZ builds custom linkage rods to your center-to-center length, tubing material and size, rod end series, thread direction and finish. Send measurements or a drawing for a quote.
What is the difference between round and hex tube bodies?
Round is standard and lightest. Hex or hex-body adapters add wrench flats so you can hold the tube while tightening jam nuts, which helps in-situ adjustment.
Should I use rod ends or ball joints on a linkage rod?
Use rod ends for higher articulation, bolt-through mounting and stronger fabricated links. Use ball joints for compact ball-stud linkage and quick-disconnect service.
