Product Definition

What Is AM AF 2-Piece Aluminum Rod Ends?

AM/AF 2-piece aluminum rod ends are lightweight threaded linkage joints designed to connect adjustable rods, brackets, and control assemblies while allowing angular movement at the connection. The AM configuration uses a male thread and the AF configuration uses a female thread; both belong to the same aluminum-body family.

The series combines a 7075-T6 aluminum body with a 52100 bearing-steel ball and a reinforced nylon race with PTFE. This construction helps reduce assembly weight and supports smooth, low-maintenance articulation in suitable linkage, motorsport, automation, agricultural-control, marine, and custom-fabrication applications. Final selection should still be checked against load, angle, thread engagement, environment, and the complete assembly duty.

Typical Applications

Applications for AM AF 2-Piece Aluminum Rod Ends

Performance Linkages

Performance Linkages

A strong fit for throttle, shifter, brake-balance, and clutch linkages where low weight and smooth articulation are both important.

Motorsport Chassis Builds

Motorsport Chassis Builds

Useful in sway-bar links, non-impact support rods, and lightweight fabricated assemblies that benefit from anodized aluminum construction.

Automation Equipment

Automation Equipment

Suitable for compact motion-control joints, actuator links, and precision mechanical assemblies with limited packaging space.

Agricultural Controls

Agricultural Controls

Applied in lighter-duty adjustment linkages and operator-control mechanisms where corrosion resistance and smooth movement are needed.

Marine Hardware

Marine Hardware

A practical option for specialty marine linkages and exposed mechanical joints where anodized aluminum helps resist moisture and contamination.

Custom Fabrication

Custom Fabrication

Popular in race fabrication, compact brackets, and specialty assemblies where builders need articulation without the weight of a steel-body rod end.

Product FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between AM and AF rod ends?

AM parts are male-thread aluminum rod ends, while AF parts are female-thread aluminum rod ends. Both use the same 7075-T6 aluminum body family and the same nylon race design direction for lightweight articulation.

What materials are used in the AM-AF series?

The AM-AF series uses a 7075-T6 aircraft aluminum body, a 52100 bearing steel ball with hard chrome plating, and an injection-molded reinforced nylon race with PTFE for self-lubricating movement.

Do AM-AF rod ends require regular lubrication?

No. The reinforced nylon race with PTFE is designed for self-lubricating service under normal operating conditions, helping reduce maintenance in clean and moderately contaminated environments.

Are right-hand and left-hand thread versions available in this series?

Yes. The AM-AF series is available in both right-hand and left-hand thread configurations, and studded options are also available by adding an S suffix where applicable.

What colors are available for the AM-AF aluminum body?

Standard colors include red and black, and other finishes such as plain, purple, blue, green, and pink can be discussed for project or volume requirements.

What kinds of applications are best suited to AM-AF rod ends?

AM-AF rod ends are best suited to lightweight linkage systems, motorsport fabrication, adjustment mechanisms, compact control assemblies, and other installations where reduced weight and clean articulation are more important than maximum steel-body load capacity.
