Product Definition

What Is CM-M CF-M Metric 2-Piece Carbon Steel Rod Ends?

CM-M CF-M Metric 2-Piece Carbon Steel Rod Ends are carbon steel rod-end joints used to connect adjustable rods, control arms, brackets, and actuator members while allowing angular movement at the connection. The design combines a threaded housing around a spherical plain bearing or race so the joint can transmit movement through a compact male- or female-thread interface. Select the bore, thread, race, misalignment, load direction, and operating environment for the complete assembly rather than choosing by nominal size alone.

Typical Applications

Applications for CM-M CF-M Metric 2-Piece Carbon Steel Rod Ends

Steering, Suspension & Chassis Linkages

Steering, Suspension & Chassis Linkages

carbon-steel rod ends provide an adjustable articulated connection for control arms, tie rods, sway-bar links, and other force-transmitting members. Check radial load, angular travel, thread engagement, and race design before use.

Actuator and Control Linkages

Actuator and Control Linkages

The threaded male or female format can connect rods, brackets, hydraulic or pneumatic cylinders, and compact actuator mechanisms. Match thread direction, bore size, and mounting geometry to the complete linkage.

Motorsport, Agricultural & Industrial Fabrication

Motorsport, Agricultural & Industrial Fabrication

These rod ends are used in serviceable vehicle and machine linkages where alignment changes during travel. Aluminum favors low weight, while steel variants suit higher-duty assemblies; final selection should follow the actual load, motion, and environment.

Automation & Motion Control

Automation & Motion Control

Suitable for actuators, guided mechanisms, and motion-control assemblies that benefit from simple two-piece rod-end construction and repeatable movement.

Fixture & Tooling Systems

Fixture & Tooling Systems

A strong fit for jigs, adjustable supports, and fixture systems where compact size, metric threads, and robust articulation are required.

General OEM Equipment

General OEM Equipment

Well suited to OEM machinery builds that need a durable, commercially practical metric rod end with optional PTFE, grease fitting, or alternate plating configurations.

Product FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between CM-M and CF-M rod ends?

CM-M parts are male rod ends with an external metric thread, while CF-M parts are female rod ends with an internally threaded body. Both use the same two-piece commercial-industrial construction concept.

What materials are used in the CM-M-CF-M metric series?

The series uses a 52100 bearing steel ball that is precision ground, heat treated, and hard chrome plated, together with a carbon steel body finished with silver zinc plating. PTFE-lined versions are available as an option.

Can I order PTFE-lined versions in the CM-M-CF-M series?

Yes. PTFE-lined versions are available by adding a T suffix to the part number, for example CMR12MT, when lower-friction self-lubricating performance is needed.

Are grease fittings or studded versions available?

Yes. Non-PTFE versions can be supplied with a grease fitting by adding a Z suffix, and studded versions are also available by adding an S suffix depending on the part number.

Can this series be supplied in alternate thread pitches or other materials?

Yes. Selected alternate metric thread pitches are available by adding the pitch to the suffix, and chromoly steel or aluminum body options can also be supplied for applications with different strength or weight requirements.

Is there an inch equivalent for the CM-M-CF-M metric series?

Yes. The inch counterpart is the CM / CF series. If your design uses imperial hardware, that series is the closest matching family to compare alongside CM-M and CF-M.
