Overview

AM AF Product Overview

AFR6 / AFL6 features a 0.3750″ bore (B) and 1.000″ body diameter (D), with a 0.719″ hard-chrome-plated 52100 steel ball running in an injection-molded reinforced nylon/PTFE race. Overall body length (AF) is 1.625″, thread engagement (CF) measures 0.937″. Width (W) is 0.500″ and body thickness (T) is 0.406″, weighing approximately 0.110 lbs.

Rated at 3,682 lb static radial load with ±12° misalignment angle, this 3/8-24 UNF 3A threaded rod end suits general industrial linkages, automotive control arms, and machinery requiring reliable angular movement under moderate loads.

Available in right-hand (AFR6) and left-hand (AFL6) configurations. The reinforced nylon/PTFE race is permanently self-lubricating and self-sealing — no grease fittings required. Female end design threads directly onto the rod end stud or tube adapter. Stud configuration available on request (add suffix S, e.g. AFR6S / AFL6S). Body machined from 7075-T6 aircraft aluminum, color anodized; available in Red, Black, Plain, Purple, Blue, Green, and Pink.

Applications

Where AM AF Rod Ends Are Used

Performance Linkages

A strong fit for throttle, shifter, brake-balance, and clutch linkages where low weight and smooth articulation are both important.

Motorsport Chassis Builds

Useful in sway-bar links, non-impact support rods, and lightweight fabricated assemblies that benefit from anodized aluminum construction.

Automation Equipment

Suitable for compact motion-control joints, actuator links, and precision mechanical assemblies with limited packaging space.

Agricultural Controls

Applied in lighter-duty adjustment linkages and operator-control mechanisms where corrosion resistance and smooth movement are needed.

Marine Hardware

A practical option for specialty marine linkages and exposed mechanical joints where anodized aluminum helps resist moisture and contamination.

Custom Fabrication

Popular in race fabrication, compact brackets, and specialty assemblies where builders need articulation without the weight of a steel-body rod end.

FAQ

AM AF Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between AM and AF rod ends?

AM parts are male-thread aluminum rod ends, while AF parts are female-thread aluminum rod ends. Both use the same 7075-T6 aluminum body family and the same nylon race design direction for lightweight articulation.

What materials are used in the AM-AF series?

The AM-AF series uses a 7075-T6 aircraft aluminum body, a 52100 bearing steel ball with hard chrome plating, and an injection-molded reinforced nylon race with PTFE for self-lubricating movement.

Do AM-AF rod ends require regular lubrication?

No. The reinforced nylon race with PTFE is designed for self-lubricating service under normal operating conditions, helping reduce maintenance in clean and moderately contaminated environments.

Are right-hand and left-hand thread versions available in this series?

Yes. The AM-AF series is available in both right-hand and left-hand thread configurations, and studded options are also available by adding an S suffix where applicable.

What colors are available for the AM-AF aluminum body?

Standard colors include red and black, and other finishes such as plain, purple, blue, green, and pink can be discussed for project or volume requirements.

What kinds of applications are best suited to AM-AF rod ends?

AM-AF rod ends are best suited to lightweight linkage systems, motorsport fabrication, adjustment mechanisms, compact control assemblies, and other installations where reduced weight and clean articulation are more important than maximum steel-body load capacity.
