Product Definition

What Is XM XF Chromoly Steel Rod Ends?

XM XF Chromoly Steel Rod Ends are chromoly or alloy steel rod-end joints used to connect adjustable rods, control arms, brackets, and actuator members while allowing angular movement at the connection. The design combines a threaded housing around a spherical plain bearing or race so the joint can transmit movement through a compact male- or female-thread interface. Select the bore, thread, race, misalignment, load direction, and operating environment for the complete assembly rather than choosing by nominal size alone.

Typical Applications

Applications for XM XF Chromoly Steel Rod Ends

Steering, Suspension & Chassis Linkages

Chromoly/alloy-steel rod ends provide an adjustable articulated connection for control arms, tie rods, sway-bar links, and other force-transmitting members. Check radial load, angular travel, thread engagement, and race design before use.

Actuator and Control Linkages

The threaded male or female format can connect rods, brackets, hydraulic or pneumatic cylinders, and compact actuator mechanisms. Match thread direction, bore size, and mounting geometry to the complete linkage.

Motorsport, Agricultural & Industrial Fabrication

These rod ends are used in serviceable vehicle and machine linkages where alignment changes during travel. Aluminum favors low weight, while steel variants suit higher-duty assemblies; final selection should follow the actual load, motion, and environment.

Marine & Offshore

Suitable for corrosion-prone and heavy-duty environments where articulation and service life both matter.

Industrial Automation

Precision actuator and robotic arm linkages requiring consistent load capacity and articulation.

CNC Machining Systems

Stable linkage performance in fixtures, motion transfer assemblies, and precision equipment builds.

Product FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between XM and XF rod ends in this series?

XM parts are male rod ends with an external shank thread, while XF parts are female rod ends with an internally threaded body. Both belong to the same heavy-duty chromoly series and share the same self-lubricating race construction.

What body and race materials are used in the XM-XF series?

The XM-XF series uses a 4130 chromoly steel body with heat treatment and hard chrome plating, a 52100 bearing steel ball, and an injection-molded reinforced nylon race with PTFE for self-lubricating articulation.

Are both right-hand and left-hand thread versions available?

Yes. Right-hand and left-hand configurations are both available across the series. Male parts use XMR or XML prefixes, while female parts use XFR or XFL prefixes depending on thread direction.

What kind of applications is the XM-XF series designed for?

This series is suited for off-road suspension systems, competition vehicles, agricultural machinery, industrial linkages, and other heavy-duty motion-control assemblies that require high strength and reliable articulation.

Do XM-XF rod ends require regular greasing?

No. The PTFE-reinforced nylon race is self-lubricating, so the series is intended to operate without routine external greasing under normal application conditions.

Are studded, metric, or stainless versions available for XM-XF products?

Yes. Studded configurations are available by adding an S suffix to the part number. Metric equivalents are available in the MXM/MXF series, and stainless steel material options are also available on request.
