AM AF Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between AM and AF rod ends?
AM parts are male-thread aluminum rod ends, while AF parts are female-thread aluminum rod ends. Both use the same 7075-T6 aluminum body family and the same nylon race design direction for lightweight articulation.
What materials are used in the AM-AF series?
The AM-AF series uses a 7075-T6 aircraft aluminum body, a 52100 bearing steel ball with hard chrome plating, and an injection-molded reinforced nylon race with PTFE for self-lubricating movement.
Do AM-AF rod ends require regular lubrication?
No. The reinforced nylon race with PTFE is designed for self-lubricating service under normal operating conditions, helping reduce maintenance in clean and moderately contaminated environments.
Are right-hand and left-hand thread versions available in this series?
Yes. The AM-AF series is available in both right-hand and left-hand thread configurations, and studded options are also available by adding an S suffix where applicable.
What colors are available for the AM-AF aluminum body?
Standard colors include red and black, and other finishes such as plain, purple, blue, green, and pink can be discussed for project or volume requirements.
What kinds of applications are best suited to AM-AF rod ends?
AM-AF rod ends are best suited to lightweight linkage systems, motorsport fabrication, adjustment mechanisms, compact control assemblies, and other installations where reduced weight and clean articulation are more important than maximum steel-body load capacity.
