Overview

XM JMX OS Product Overview

JMXR14 OS / JMXL14 OS features a 0.8750″ bore (B) and 2.000″ body diameter (D), with a 1.375″ precision-ground 52100 steel ball running in a reinforced nylon/PTFE race. Overall body length (AM) is 4.49″, thread engagement depth (D) is 3.05″. Width (W) is 0.875″ and body thickness (T) is 0.765″. Offset dimension (OS) is 0.87″.

The offset shank design displaces the bore center 0.87″ from the thread centerline, eliminating tie rod and differential cover interference without requiring suspension geometry changes. With a 7/8-14 UNF 3A external thread and ±7° misalignment angle, this rod end suits heavy-duty steering, large suspension, and off-road applications where differential cover clearance is critical. The 4130 chromoly body is heat treated and hard chrome plated; the reinforced nylon/PTFE race is self-lubricating and self-sealing.

Available in right-hand (JMXR14 OS) and left-hand (JMXL14 OS) thread configurations. The OS (offset shank) design is a direct solution for clearance issues encountered in lifted trucks, off-road builds, and high-clearance suspension systems where standard straight-shank rod ends interfere with adjacent drivetrain components. Body is 4130 chromoly steel, heat treated and hard chrome plated.

Applications

Where XM JMX OS Rod Ends Are Used

Tie Rod Clearance Fixes

Designed to solve tie rod and adjacent component clearance problems where a standard rod end head position would interfere with nearby chassis or steering hardware.

Differential Cover Clearance

Useful where steering and suspension links run close to differential covers or nearby housings and need offset articulation to avoid contact through travel.

Custom Steering Geometry

A strong option for custom steering systems that need chromoly rod ends with offset head positioning to improve packaging and geometry freedom.

Off-Road Front End Links

Well suited to fabricated front-end and suspension links where articulation, strength, and head offset all matter together.

Performance Chassis Builds

A good fit for motorsport and custom chassis builds that need offset rod ends to clear brackets, covers, or housings without giving up chromoly strength.

Special Packaging Linkages

Useful wherever a linkage needs a non-standard rod end head position to preserve motion range while staying inside a tight installed envelope.

FAQ

XM JMX OS Frequently Asked Questions

What is the purpose of the XM-OS and JMX-OS offset head design?

The offset head design is intended to eliminate tie rod and differential cover clearance issues by moving the rod end head position away from interference points in the linkage layout.

What materials are used in the XM-JMX-OS series?

The series uses a hard-chrome-plated 52100 bearing steel ball, an injection-molded reinforced nylon race with PTFE, and a 4130 chromoly steel body that is heat treated and hard chrome plated.

What is the difference between XM-OS and JMX-OS parts?

Both are offset chromoly rod ends, but they correspond to different body families and part number groupings within the series. The offset concept is the same, while the exact dimensions and fitment differ by part number.

Where are XM-JMX-OS rod ends commonly used?

They are commonly used in steering systems, off-road front-end links, custom suspension geometry, and clearance-critical fabricated linkage assemblies where a standard rod end would interfere with nearby components.

Are these rod ends self-lubricating?

Yes. The series uses an injection-molded reinforced nylon race with PTFE, providing a self-lubricating construction suited to repeated articulation.

Why use an offset rod end instead of a standard rod end?

An offset rod end is useful when you need to preserve articulation and thread engagement but move the head centerline to clear housings, covers, brackets, or nearby steering components.
